About
itAtlas began as a working tool, not a product. Its author is a practising technical architect in the public sector — the person who actually gets asked "what have we got, what's it worth, what's ageing out, and what breaks if this goes down?" — and who was tired of answering from a sprawl of spreadsheets.
The enterprise CMDB and EA suites answer those questions, but they cost a fortune, take a program of work to stand up, and — the dealbreaker for government and security-conscious organisations — they want your entire estate inventory sitting on someone else's servers. Your estate map is effectively an attack map. Handing it to a third party is a hard no for many CISOs.
Take the essential 20% of a CMDB and EA repository — the inventory, the relationships, the lifecycle, the classification, the licence picture — and deliver it as a tool that runs entirely in your browser. No server database. Your data is generated and stored on your own device; the only copy that ever leaves is an encrypted file you choose to save. The honest escape from spreadsheets, without trading away sovereignty.
Local-first isn't a limitation we settled for — it's the point. Software should give you leverage without taking custody of your data. itAtlas is our take on what that looks like for the messy, high-stakes job of knowing your own IT estate.
